Troubleshooting Item: Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi Connection Diagnosis
Resolving local network connection, signal issues, and pairing failures with the SunHopper®-D unit.
Introduction
Wi-Fi connectivity is used for smart weather scheduling using the SunHopper® Algorithm (if enabled), uploading real-time performance data, and tracking energy savings directly to the GreenPWR cloud.
If your device is displaying a network disconnect warning or appears offline in your phone app, it is likely due to signal attenuation, router security configurations, or band mismatch.
Troubleshooting Steps
Network Selection & Signal
1
Verify 2.4 GHz band availability: The unit requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection and does not support 5 GHz-only bands. If using a dual-band router with a single shared SSID (band steering), verify the 2.4 GHz radio is active.
2
Check signal strength (RSSI): Ensure signal strength at the installation site is -70 dBm or better (e.g., -60 dBm is strong, -80 dBm is weak).
3
Optimize range: If the unit is installed far from the router or separated by thick walls/concrete, install a standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi range extender nearby.
Router & Security Settings
1
Disable MAC address filtering: Ensure the router’s access control list (ACL) or MAC filtering allows new client connections, or add the unit’s MAC address to the whitelist.
2
Check security protocol: Use standard WPA2-Personal, WPA3-Personal, or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Enterprise (802.1X / RADIUS) and captive portal networks (requiring web page login) are not supported.
3
Power-cycle the router: If settings were changed, restart the router to flush stale DHCP leases and resolve potential IP conflicts before re-attempting provisioning.
